The summer season of 2024 has become a milestone for tourism in Turkey. According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 2.73 million tourists from Russia visited the country between June and August. This is 7% more than in the same period last year and sets a new record for tourist flow from Russia since the beginning of the pandemic.
In comparison to previous years, 2.55 million trips from Russia to Turkey were recorded in 2023, while 2.15 million were recorded in 2022. During the pandemic years, when international air traffic was limited, the number of tourists dropped to 1.8 million in 2021 and 454.6 thousand in 2020. This growth reflects a significant recovery in the tourism sector, although it has not yet reached the pre-pandemic level of 2019, when 3.16 million Russian citizens visited Turkey.
